CHUDOBA

HOSTS OF

We seek to understand the struggles and joys of the inhabitants of a small homestead from the Golęszyce tribe at the turn of the 9th and 10th centuries. Living almost at the doorstep of the Great Moravian gate, they served as a bridge between the northern and southern parts of the Slavic world.

We are Chudoba – and we take on the challenge of reconstructing the life and culture of ordinary, simple people who lived in the region of Silesia over a thousand years ago.

Chudoba, archaic: "modest belongings or a small homestead"(Source: PWN Polish Language Dictionary)

TOGETHER FOR COMMUNITY

We show that history can bring people together, build bonds, and strengthen a sense of identity. Because the past is a great starting point for collective action here and now.

We work locally — for people and with people. We organize events, workshops, and shows for schools, families, and communities. We connect generations and engage in protecting local nature and heritage.

SHOWING THAT THERE’S ANOTHER WAY

01

HISTORY THAT LIVES

Our work teaches how to find joy in simplicity, manual labor, and being present in the moment. It’s a way to find a healthy balance between past and present — and a great alternative to the online world.

We want to inspire a lifestyle more in tune with nature and more mindful of what is simple and important. In a world full of rush, we remind people that in the past, people knew how to make many things on their own — with respect for materials, nature, and one another.

We organize shows, reenactments, and workshops that let you travel back in time. Thanks to this, everyone — regardless of age — can rediscover history not as a school subject, but as something alive, engaging, and close to the heart.

We teach with passion, entertain with knowledge, and awaken curiosity. We want history to be something you can touch, feel, and experience. We show how early Slavs lived — through clothing, food, crafts, and daily customs.

We’re creating a space where you can slow down, learn something new, and feel part of something greater. As an association, we have our goals — but instead of lofty slogans, we focus on what is real, shared, and meaningful.

First and foremost, we are a group of people brought together by a shared passion and the need to take a breath from the rush of everyday life.We seek peace, meaning, and joy in history — the old, Slavic kind, full of simplicity and mindfulness.

RECONSTRUCTION

Treasurer, quality guardian, and the lady of deadlines.A talented and hardworking graphic designer and web developer, from whose skilled hands comes everything that visually represents Chudoba — from our logo, website, and social media profiles to every piece of print we produce. Give her a whip, and she’ll keep us all in line — but without her, this whole place would collapse.

The sharpest mind and the hardest-working hands in the association. On a single evening by the campfire, he might perform a genetic analysis of Pseudomonas aeruginosa biofilm. Still, he’s earned the most respect among his ignorant friends as a skilled self-taught shoemaker, leatherworker, and potter — all using early medieval methods, starting from raw materials.

Dawid’s closest partner in crime – the more analytical and calm one. While a few nights in a freezing forest might sound like a horror movie for most people, for Jarek it’s a dream weekend — as long as he can leave his phone behind. With an axe and a tree, he builds a shelter in an hour.

Founder of the association and the main driving force behind the project’s excitement. He dives into early medieval Slavic knowledge even while putting his child to bed. He has a talent for explaining fascinating topics in simple terms — both at work and in his free time.
